We went to the Lyon Arboretum with Kumu Andy and Kumu Shelby. When we returned to class, our Explorers found loads of connections to what we've been learning about this year..."The wind blowing through the trees is like the wind blowing the Hokule'a", "We saw red bananas that made me think of following a banana", "We have to care for nature, the land, and the earth....Malama 'Aina and Malama Honua", "The huge albizia trees are the size like the ones they use for wa'a hulls like the Hokule'a", "We saw different kalo like we sing in our May Day song", and "The tree names are in Hawaiian and we learn lots of Hawaiian words in school". So many different connections!!
