We have been learning about artist David Hockney. The opera, L'enfant et les Sortileges, inspired David Hockney to create the exhibit at the Spalding House. We learned about the opera and the story in class before visiting the museum. The story of L'enfant et les Sortileges reminded them of the book, Where the Wild Things Are, and the movie, Beauty and the Beast. Great connections, Explorers!!
Ms. Taylor, our drama teacher, worked with the children in the exhibit as you can see in the photos below. Mrs. Merritt guided the children through the gardens talking about the sculptures and stopping to have the children sketch. What a perfect morning! Thank you, Ms. Taylor and Mrs. Merritt!
We were also given some amazing gifts for the children from Trevor's popo. Each child was given a very special brush but not just any brush. This artist's tool has a paint brush on one side and a pencil on the other. It's so clever and one that each Explorer will be able to create their own amazing art. She also gave our class prints from the Hockney exhibit. Fantastic! Thank you so very much, Popo Hee!!! What a very special gift!!!
